IUCr 2008
August 23-31, 2008
Osaka, Japan
We cordially invite you to join the 21st Congress of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr), which will be held in Osaka, Japan, from August 23 to 31, 2008. The IUCr is the only truly international organization promoting crystallography, and the General Assembly and Congress is held every three years. The Congress is organized jointly by the Crystallographic Society of Japan (CrSJ) and the Science Council of Japan.

The Congress intends to provide an excellent opportunity to review the rapid advances in the fields of crystallography, which includes a variety of research fields not only in the basic sciences such as physics, chemistry, biology, and mineralogy, but also in the applied sciences such as materials and pharmaceutical sciences. Many distinguished speakers from all regions of the world will be invited to bring us all up-to-date on recent developments through more than 30 plenary lectures and more than 90 microsymposia. There will also be opportunities for participants to make their own works known to a wider audience and to have discussions with other participants through poster presentations. Furthermore, many pre- and post-conferences will be held in cities throughout Japan.

6th International NCCR Symposium on New Trends in Structural Biology
September 8-9, 2008
Zurich, Switzerland

5th International Conference on Structural Genomics (ICSG 2008)
September 20-24, 2008
Oxford, England
The 5th International Conference on Structural Genomics (ICSG 2008) will be held in Oxford, UK on September 20-24th. The biennial Conference is the premier meeting for the Structural Genomics scientific community world-wide and is hosted on behalf of the International Structural Genomics Organization (ISGO) by Professor David Stuart at the University of Oxford, Division of Structural Biology.

The Scientific Program will contain main scientific sessions, poster sessions, breakout discussion groups for specific topics and a social program and we expect to attract a worldwide audience of 500 delegates.

9th Intl School on the Crystallography of Biological Macromolecules
September 29-October 3, 2008
Como, Italy
The school focuses on the application of X-ray crystallographic methods to the study of biological macromolecules, with emphasis on the latest developments. The programme includes lectures on protein expression and purification, crystallisation, data collection and processing, synchrotron sources, phasing, phase improvement, model building, refinement and analysis of structural data. These methods sections will be complemented with seminars about new structures. Participants who are encouraged to present a poster; a number of the oral contributions will be selected from the poster abstracts.

FEBS practical and lecture course "Advanced methods in macromolecular crystallization III"
October 3-10, 2008
Nove Hrady, Czech Republic
The third run of the FEBS practical and lecture course PLC08-002 named "Advanced methods in macromolecular crystallization III“ will take place at the Academy and University Center at Nove Hrady (Czech Republic) from October 3rd to October 10th, 2008. The course is intended for undergraduate (5th year) and postgraduate students and postdocs with an interest in macromolecular crystallization.

The planned course will be quite different from the established courses in protein crystallization. The course is designed to bring over the message of the benefits of more rational approaches to macromolecular crystallization and is aimed at a healthy mixture of advanced discussions of the theory and laboratory experiments. To achieve this goal, we have invited a number of prominent experts in the field as teachers and tutors.

Proposed deadline for applications: June 30, 2008

For more information about the course, please have a look at the website http://www.img.cas.cz/igm/cc/ (open from March 2008) or contact the organizers.

EMBO World Lecture Course on RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN MACROMOLECULAR CRYSTALLOGRAPHY
November 9-14, 2008
Pune, India
We would like to announce an EMBO World Lecture Course on RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN MACROMOLECULAR CRYSTALLOGRAPHY, which
will take place from Nov 09-14, 2008 in the town in Pune in India, on the premises of the National Chemical Laboratory NCL. This course consists of various lectures describing recent methodological developments in the field from crystallization, to
diffraction data collection, structure determination and function prediction from structure as well as lectures on recent achievements in biology using X-ray diffraction techniques.

Pune is located abour 150 km south of Mumbai (Bombay) on the
foothills of the Western valley of Maharashtra in Western India. It is a city of great culture and is rich in tradition and history as well as having a balanced climate.

Due to space limitations, we can only accommodate up to 100 participants. Preference will be given to applicants who wish to present their own work. From the submitted abstracts a number of short talks will be selected. Also, the three best posters will be awarded a poster price.

REGISTRATION for the course is now open.
