Title: Protein Crystallization Scientist (R2-R4)
Experience: B.S. or M.S. in Biochemistry, Biology or Chemistry
Website: www.pfizer.jobs

Description:
When do discoveries become miracles?

At Pfizer Global Research & Development (PGRD), Pfizer’s visionary discovery and development division and the largest pharmaceutical research & development organization in the world, we’re not content waiting to witness the evolution of our industry. Instead, we’re driven by science, building on our current successes and capabilities, playing a critical role in developing the most compelling story of scientific discoveries.

Our emphasis on innovation has brought to market a wide range of ground-breaking medicines, such as Lipitor® (atorvastatin calcium), Zithromax® (AZITHROMYCIN), Viracept® (nelfinavir mesylate), Zoloft® (sertraline hydrochloride), Viagra® (sildenafil citrate), and our newest smoking cessation medicine, Chantix® (varenicline). And, today, with a broad research pipeline that spans many therapeutic areas, we are determined to bring even more cures to the marketplace.

But there is much more work to be done and we can’t do it alone. That’s why we’re always seeking those who share our belief that science can improve our world, that by working together we can bring exciting new therapies to patients on a global scale and forever change the way we improve the health and well-being of all people.

Currently, we are seeking the following:

Protein Crystallization Scientist (R2-R4)

The successful candidate will become a member of a productive and innovative structure based drug design group, working within cross-functional structural biology teams to crystallize novel protein targets and generate protein-ligand co-crystal structures. As a member of our protein crystallography group, you will have the opportunity to partner with scientists in protein expression, protein purification, protein analytics, and medicinal chemistry.

The successful candidate will conduct research on the structural biology of novel pharmaceutical targets as part of a comprehensive structure-aided drug design program. Working as part of a team and in collaboration with protein biochemists, the scientist will screen novel targets for crystallization, optimize hits to prepare diffraction quality crystals, and prepare crystals of target-inhibitor complexes by co-crystallization or soaking. Experience in cryoprotection of protein crystals, crystal mounting, and X-ray diffraction data collection and processing is also highly desired.

Candidates must have a B.S. or M.S. in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry or related field with 2-5 years of research laboratory experience in the crystallization of proteins and protein-inhibitor complexes. Additionally, the ability to develop protocols for crystallization and guide reagent and crystallization efforts for protein crystallography projects as well as experience in protein purification, biophysical analysis of proteins, and/or crystallization are required.

To apply for this position, located in St. Louis, MO, please visit www.pfizer.jobs and reference requisition number 79660.

Now you can be a vital member of a research and development company unlike any other, Pfizer Global Research & Development. Join us and turn your knowledge into therapies.
